Club competition draws and dates
Wednesday 1 May 2002

While the 2002 FIFA World Cup is reaching its climax, the 2002/03 UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup programme will be rolling into action.

Mid-June start
The first draw for the new season takes place in Geneva on Friday, 21 June 2002, and will feature the UEFA Champions League first and second qualifying rounds, as well as the UEFA Cup qualifying round.

July and August matches
The UEFA Champions League first qualifying round matches will be played on 17 and 24 July 2002, the second qualifying round follows on 31 July and 7 August 2002, and the UEFA Cup qualifying round is staged on 15 and 29 August 2002.

Nyon venue
UEFAs headquarters in Nyon will then host the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round draw on Friday, 26 July 2002, for matches on 13/14 August and 27/28 August 2002.

Monaco focus
Monaco has become the traditional port-of-call to herald the start of the competitions proper in the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Cup, with the draw ceremonies coinciding with the UEFA Super Cup match.

First group stage
This seasons draw for the UEFA Champions League first group stage takes place at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco on Thursday, 29 August 2002, and the same venue plays host to the UEFA Cup first-round draw the following day.

Match days
The UEFA Champions League first group stage match dates are as follows: 17/18 September 2002 (Match Day 1); 24/25 September 2002 (MD 2); 1/2 October 2002 (MD 3); 22/23 October 2002 (MD 4); 29/30 October 2002 (MD 5); 12/13 November 2002 (MD 6).

UEFA Cup opening rounds 
UEFA Cup first-round matches will be played on 19 September and 3 October 2002, with the second-round draw following at UEFAs Nyon headquarters on Tuesday, 8 October 2002. The UEFA Cup second round will be staged on 31 October and 14 November 2002.

Second group stage
The football worlds focus will then switch to Geneva on Friday, 15 November 2002, with the draws for the UEFA Champions League second group stage and UEFA Cup third round.

Dates for your diary
The following match dates have been fixed for the Champions League second group stage: 26/27 November 2002 (MD 7); 10/11 December 2002 (MD 8); 18/19 February 2003 (MD 9); 25/26 February 2003 (MD 10); 11/12 March 2003 (MD 11); 18/19 March 2003 (MD 12).

UEFA Cup third round
Third-round matches in the UEFA Cup will be played on 28 November and 12 December 2002.

Double draw
The UEFA Cup will be the centre of attention on Friday, 13 December 2002, when the fourth-round and quarter-final draws are held at UEFAs headquarters in Nyon. Fourth-round matches will follow on 20 and 27 February 2003, and the quarter-finals are scheduled for 13 and 20 March 2003.

Pride of place
Next springs final draw of the 2002/03 campaign will be held on Friday, 21 March 2003 at the UEFA headquarters in Nyon. Pride of place goes to the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals and semi-finals, and the UEFA Cup semi-finals.

Spring encounters
The UEFA Champions League quarter-finals will be played on 8/9 and 22/23 April 2003. The semi-finals will take place on 6/7 and 13/14 May 2003. Semi-final matches in the UEFA Cup have been fixed for 10 and 24 April 2003.

Club climax
The 2002/03 campaign reaches its climax with the UEFA Cup final on 21 May 2003 at the Olimpico stadium, Seville, and the UEFA Champions League final at Old Trafford, Manchester, brings the curtain down on the season on 28 May 2003.
